TABLE OF CONTENTS

PURPOSE: This Operating Procedure contains the definition of DCC Rider Qualification categories, requirements for earning DCC Rider qualification patches, and guidelines for the administration of the DCC Rider Qualification system.

UTILIZATION: This Procedure is to be used as a guideline for DCC members who wish to earn Rider Qualification patches, the touring Captain or delegated individual who reviews qualification certifications and distributes patches, and ride leaders or event organizers who wish to conduct DCC qualification rides.

RIDER QUALIFICATION: The DCC offers its members the opportunity to earn rider qualification patches by demonstrating safety conscious riding ability with attention to following the Ohio Motor Vehicle Codes in each of the classes D, C, B, A, and AA. There is no requirement for riders to demonstrate any qualification to participate in the Spoke’N’Link listed club rides. The rider qualifications are optional.

Class categories are the same for rider qualifications as for club rides but each class also has a maximum time to complete a specified distance (refer to all of the information below. The maximum times and distances for each class listed at the top of the Spoke'N'Link ride list apply to rider qualifications only and not to the listed rides. To qualify in a class a club member must demonstrate the ability to safely ride the class distance in the maximum (or less) time and, while riding, maintain an average speed equal to or greater than the minimum of the stated average speed range for the class. For example, to earn a C class rider qualification, a DCC member must safely ride at least 40 miles in less than 4 hours after the ride started while riding must maintain an average speed greater than 12 miles per hour. This must be done in conjunction with one of the club rides listed in Spoke’N’Link and reported on the DCC Tour Roster form signed by the ride leader.

Ride planning is done by the ride leader who is not required to make the ride compatible with demonstration of rider qualifications unless the ride is listed in Spoke’N’Link as a DCC qualification ride. On any ride the leader may certify class certification if a rider has met the class qualification requirements. After receiving DCC Touring Roster forms which indicate rider qualifications, the DCC Touring Captain or a delegated individual will provide Qualification patches to the qualified riders.

Qualification Parameters:

Classification Speed Distance Time
D 9 to 12 MPH 20 miles 3 hours
C 12 to 15 MPH 40 miles 4 hours
B 15 to 18 MPH 65 miles 5 hours
A 18 to 21 MPH 100 miles 7 hours
AA 22+ MPH 100 miles 5.5 hours
