Bike Commute to Fight Pain at the Pump 

            This column was mentioned in an April 11 Dayton Daily News story by Margo Kissell on how area commuters deal with the recent huge increases in gasoline prices.   

DCC commuter John Horanyi was quoted in Margo’s story as saying that he moves his car about every two weeks.  I have found that this is very important.   On two occasions, I have had to push my car out of the garage to jump start it after parking in the garage for weeks.  There are so many electronic devices on autos which continue to operate even after the ignition is switched off that we must run our cars a little every once in awhile to keep the battery charged.   Another problem associated with owning a car. 

Bike to Work Days May 9 and 16

            Area bike commuters will have two opportunities to enjoy a free breakfast this spring.

            Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will celebrate its 14^th Annual Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 9.   All base bike commuters arriving at either the Wright Fitness Center in Area B or the Area C Base Community Center (Building 230) will enjoy a free breakfast.  The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission will again participate in this event, with displays at each venue.

            Downtown Dayton bike commuters may participate in the 52nd Annual National Bike to Work Day, hosted by Five Rivers MetroParks on May 16 in the Second Street Market, at 600 East Second Street (corner of Second and Webster Streets)

         Please send your monthly miles by 2nd of each month to Dennis.L.Pohl@lexisnexis.com.  Remember to include errands, appointments, trips to school, and other trips in which you substituted a bicycle for a motor vehicle.  Please round all figures to the next whole number.
