DCC GOBA SAG service
Scott Butler, GOBA SAG coordinator
Columbus Outdoor Pursuits is celebrating the 31st anniversary of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure in the Bowling Green-Lake Erie region, and the Dayton Cycling Club will again offer a GOBA SAG service. COP describes the terrain of the June 15-22 family bicycle tour as “flat and flatter with a few small climbs out of river valleys.” The minimum mileage for the week is 140, and the maximum is about 400. Four days are 45-55 scenic miles from town to town, and three are optional riding days with 50- or 100-mile loops from camp. Riders who use the sanctioned shortcuts can reduce the distance of the town-to-town rides to about 35 miles while still visiting all food stops.
GOBA riders will gather Saturday, June 15, at the Wood County Fairgrounds in Bowling Green. On Father’s Day, riders will travel to Fremont. Monday’s ride to Port Clinton will be 45-55 miles long, where Tuesday and Wednesday will be layover days with optional 50-100 mile loops. A 45-55-mile trek to Oregon follows on Thursday. Friday’s layover day in Oregon will offer an optional loop. The tour ends Saturday with a return to Bowling Green.
The DCC’s GOBA SAG service involves a rental truck that carries participants’ luggage and supplies from town to town, and a minivan that makes daily runs for drinks, ice and snacks. The DCC pays the GOBA registration fees of a full-time truck driver and a full-time van driver. If you are interested in driving the truck or van, contact Scott Butler at (937) 216-1232 as soon as possible.
This service costs $60 for DCC members. Everyone who wishes to participate must join the DCC, which costs $20 for an adult, or $30 per family (two spouses plus their junior dependents). To join or renew, click member signup below (Note that the expiration date for current DCC members is April 30). Your payment guarantees space on a 22-foot rental truck for several small bags of gear plus a lawn chair.
